Danaher Corporation Global Sr. EHS Engineer in Newark, California

POSITION SUMMARY:

Cepheid is working to build a strong Safety Culture across all sites globally. This position will serve as a Subject Matter Expert in Environmental Health & Safety for Cepheid in at the level as well as in a global capacity. The role will be responsible for managing the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation at the Newark manufacturing locations and supporting throughout Cepheid as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and implement EHS compliance and management systems in accordance with governmental and company requirements

  • Manage the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation

  • Manage projects in EHS

  • Partner with Cepheid site leaders to continuously improve the safety culture, awareness, and accountability in support of EHS programs

  • Interface with site EHS committees, as well as the Emergency Response and Crisis Management teams

  • Evaluate proposed Federal, state, and local EHS compliance laws and regulations to determine impact to compliance programs and business operations

  • Interpret laws and regulations to determine applicability for facilities of responsibility and implement programs to comply

  • Implement EHS management systems programs and associated documentation

  • Manage environmental compliance metrics including Storm, hazardous material management, Air permits, Life Safety, Hazardous Wastes, Form R reporting, Spill Prevention Countermeasures and Control Programs and chemical tracking and inventory programs

  • Completes audits, IH sampling, ergonomic assessments, and assists in pollution prevention activities.

  • Will travel both domestically and internationally up to 30%

  • Must demonstrate personal integrity and high ethical standards

TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage EHS training requirements globally

  • Complete all assigned and required training satisfactorily and on time

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience (in years):

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of related work experience OR

  • Master’s degree in field with 6+ years of related work experience OR

  • Doctoral degree in field with 3+ years of work experience.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with all levels of organization

  • Ability to solve complex problems by: actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources, consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems, and mastering unfamiliar information, tasks, and situations quickly and effectively

  • Must be highly proficient in Excel and data analysis

  • Strong computer-based skills, specifically with Microsoft Word and Power Point programs.

Physical requirements/abilities:

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must be able to stand for several hours. Work may involve repetitive arm/wrist motions.

Other:

  • Must have or be able to get a current passport to support Cepheid global auditing

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ten years of experience in the field of Environmental, Health and Safety OR

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental, Health & Safety with 5+ years of related work OR

  • Master of Science degree in Environmental, Health & Safety with 3+ years of related work

  • Doctoral degree in Environmental, Health & Safety with 0-2 years of related work experience.

  • Strong project management skills as the position requires project manage across global operations

  • Strong data management and analysis skills as the position will be responsible for data management for global ESH.

  • Strong people skills as the position will be required to influence people

  • Safety Culture through Grassroots Safety

  • Black or Green Belt Six Sigma

  • Master’s Degree

  • Lean Tools
