Danaher Corporation Production Manager - PM Shift in Newark, California

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Production Manager is responsible to coordinate and facilitate the daily operations of Fill and Pack Manufacturing team to provide necessary resources, on-going work direction and problem solving to ensure business goals in terms of safety, quality, productivity, on-time delivery to internal and external customers with the intent of continuous improvement are met under the guidelines of the company policies and procedures.

The Production Manager will have responsibility in a Newark, Ca. Jidoka manufacturing operations with responsibility for a particular production shift in an environment for consumables and finished goods (fill-pack) at Cepheid. This will include recruiting and developing a team, identifying and implementing policies, procedures and manufacturing strategies to facilitate optimal production and performance. This position is hands-on and requires strong production and supply chain management skills of a larger direct labor workforce. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring a culture of high performance, collaboration with multicultural cross-functional.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage staff resources by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training and developing associates for growth opportunities

  • Maximize the performance of Value Streams by implementing and sustaining lean conversion principles in order to meet customer requirements.

  • Develop and execute strategy for improving the safety, quality, delivery, inventory and productivity (SQDIP) performance.

  • Report progress and necessary counter-measures to achieve set goals through Daily Management walkthroughs.

  • Coach and develop teams, facilitate individual and team growth

  • Utilize standard reports and visual management to clearly communicate production schedules, delays and corrective action

  • Responsible for on time delivery of product from respective work cells

  • Maintain work flow by monitoring steps of the process; observing processes and equipment, monitoring personnel and resources, developing reporting procedures and systems in accordance with company guidelines to ensure success in meeting the Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Productivity goals.

  • Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action.

  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.

  • Drive ever-improving results by leveraging Danaher Business System (DBS) tools, consulting skills, and change management process.

  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision and direct work priorities of direct report supervisors and manufacturing associates

  • Provides input for capital expenditures for new equipment and facilities

  • Directly provide formal and informal DBS training and coaching

  • Support/Lead productive kaizen events and sustainment of KPIs.

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, goal oriented and time-sensitive environment.

  • Able to work independently and complete basic problem solving

  • Other duties as assigned by the manager and may be asked to be included in quality activities and employee activity teams.

TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete all assigned and required training satisfactorily and on time

  • For people managers, ensure your associates attend and complete all required trainings satisfactorily and on time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education or Experience (in years):

  • Bachelor’s degree with 9+ years of experience OR

  • Master’s degree with 7+ years of experience

Knowledge and skills:

  • Leadership: Willingness to work on the shop floor and lead by example; ability to influence decision making with or without authority, facilitate groups with diverse perspectives, bring teams to agreement. High tolerance for ambiguity

  • Communication: Interpersonal skills that build productive relationships and influence others, both within the business and across organizations. Ability to interact with all levels of the business (senior leaders to working teams), exceptionally good listening skills, able to present complex or new ideas with clarity and simplicity

  • Teamwork: collaborate effectively with others in the spirit of common objectives

  • Planning and Execution: Excellent project management and prioritization skills. Solid business acumen. Able to deliver results despite shifting environment

  • Analytical Problem Solving: Able to identify problems; apply structured and disciplined methodology to identify root cause using data. Innovative and effective solution development, risk mitigation and execution. Hands-on experience with most of the following Lean / Problem solving tools: Lean, Standard Work, Kaizens, PSP, etc.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 to 7 years in an FDA/ISO regulated manufacturing environment

  • At least 5 years experience in a leadership role

  • Extensive experience using continuous improvement tools and methodologies

  • Experience in a clinical diagnostic or medical device environment

  • Statistical, Lean, and Six Sigma training

  • Knowledge and experience with IQ, OQ and PQ validations

  • cGMP/GLP experience is highly preferred
