Summary:

The primary responsibility of an Engineering Manager is to implement innovative new manufacturing technologies in support of Pall Life Sciences business objectives. In addition, the Engineering Manager is responsible for training and mentoring all other engineers in all engineering procedures, processes and our manufacturing technology for the Pensacola manufacturing plant. Critical metrics for this position are total manufactured per unit cost reduction, manufacturing process cycle time reduction, equipment uptime availability, capacity utilization, scrap and waste per unit cost reduction, media technology development, media product and process standardization and technical talent and career development.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Drive continuous improvement activities in quality, cycle times, yields, machine availability through lean techniques (DBS) and value engineering to enhance the capability of existing processes and remove waste.

  • Support Value Streams as required in the resolution of high priority production and quality issues

  • Work with Quality to identify and resolve systemic quality issues using the customer defect tracking and resolution CDT&R process

  • Assign resources as needed for New Product Introduction (NPI) projects

  • Identify and justify capital equipment investment

  • Drive functional excellence of the Engineering Team, develop staff as master problem solvers

  • Manage the OTA process for the Engineering Team

  • Review all available production data (product performance, process capability, product cost, etc.) and compare to industry standards, customer expectations and competitors.

  • Interface with Advanced Engineering and R&D as required to gain needed support and also provide support as needed.

  • Ensures all personnel are adhering to ISO, cGMP and cleanliness standards as set forth by policy.

  • Responsible for hiring new employees as needed.

  • Responsible for assuring a safe working environment for all employees.

  • Responsible for assuring compliance with all government regulations.

  • Empower work force to become more engaged in the process and take on additional responsibilities.

  • Initiate and revise standard work procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced working knowledge of manufacturing processes as typically acquired by completion of a Bachelor of Science/Art (BS/BA) in chemical engineering, chemistry, polymer science, or other engineering/technically equivalent field and, additionally, eight or more years of progressive experience in process engineering, product engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and/or R&D. A Master’s Degree is preferred.

  • Technical management of products and processes and coaching skills required.

  • Strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills (Six Sigma Green Belt or willingness to achieve highly preferred). Must have the ability to analytically evaluate data and information, use progressive problem-solving methods and implement solutions.

  • Proficiency executing/implementing Design of Experiments (DOE’s), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Ishikawa Diagrams, optimization, and other systematic tools.

  • Proficiency in use of the latest versions of the following software packages or equivalent:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint (required),

  • Quality Analyst and/or Minitab (preferred, ability to learn required),

  • Microsoft Project (preferred),

  • Microsoft Industrial SQL (optional),

  • Allen Bradley RS 5000 (optional),

  • Wonderware Factory Suite (optional),

  • AutoDesk AutoCAD LT (optional).

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently communicate in oral and written forms at any level within the organization and interact effectively with customers and external business professionals.

  • Strong program/project management, leadership, team building, and mentoring skills. Must be able to drive business relevant projects and ensure a positive impact for customers.

  • Knowledge and ability to apply standards and codes published by such authorities as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements preferred.

  • Ability to prioritize activities and to remain flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
