Position Summary:

Pall Industrial is seeking a Director of Polymer Chemistry to join our Center of Excellence in Chemistry Research located in Port Washington, NY. This is a newly created role to further advance breakthrough technologies in novel chemistry tools (functional materials and chemical architectures) to enable selective separation science. It's an exciting time to join Pall!

This role is ideal for a highly motivated thought leader who has had both professional career focus and academic background with emphasis in Polymer Chemistry Synthesis, Membrane Science and Surface Modifications. This Director of Polymer Chemistry would be a people leader with solid scientific achievements as evidenced through journal publications, patents, and technical speaking engagements on polymer chemistry and surface modification.

This new Director will lead the growing Chemistry team which currently consists of polymer chemists, chemical engineers, and material scientists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership to a team of highly skilled and motivated scientists, drive innovation, develop strategy and lead chemistry research that enables state of the art functional chemistry, polymer processing and membrane modification for filtration applications.

  • Lead the team to identify new polymer chemistries, membrane technologies, fluoropolymer chemistry, design of ligand and coordination chemistries for contaminant capture.

  • Collaborate and support the design of next generation filtration membrane processes and products that meet application needs for functional compatibility and removal efficiencies.

  • Develop methods to enable New Product Development (NPD) using novel functional chemistry.

  • Lead and give technical direction to scientist on polymer synthesis and characterization

  • Act as a mentor and coach to solve problems and create novel functional chemistry platform for next generation products from proof of concept to scale up.

  • Act as a domain specialist and leader for functional chemistry and sets direction to support business needs using for next generation chemistry.

  • Manages group budgets. Participates in technical brain storming sessions, as related to early stage learning, NPD projects, and contributes by utilizing fundamental understanding of functional chemistry.

  • Collaborates & works with universities, industry and other consortia to lead groundbreaking research for next generation polymers or surface modification processes.

  • Interacts with global cross-functional members from R&D, Engineering, Technology Transfer, Marketing and Manufacturing and find opportunities to optimize Pall products and processes.

  • Fosters and exemplifies a culture of integrity, honesty, and inclusion within chemistry team and throughout the Pall community.

  • A team player and has the ability to influence decision making with or without authority, facilitate groups with diverse perspectives, bring teams to agreement. High tolerance for ambiguity.

  • Communication: Interpersonal skills that build positive relationships and influence others, both within the business and across organizations. Ability to interact with all levels of the business (senior leaders to working teams), exceptionally good listening skills, able to present sophisticated and new insights with clarity and simplicity.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, organic Chemistry or Material Science with 7+ years of R&D industry experience with a clear and established track record in functional polymers chemistry/synthesis and organic/inorganic/materials chemistry. Good understanding of organic/inorganic surface modification/functionalization

  • At least 5 years of technical leadership and direct people management experience with teams consisting of R&D scientists and engineers.

  • Knowledge and expertise in materials research and process development of high temperature polymer materials, fluoropolymer chemistry systems, organometallic chemistry, and surface modification of polymeric/porous membranes or organic substrates is highly desirable.

  • Good understanding of physical organic and coordination/chelation chemistry. Excellent record of impactful delivery of chemistry concepts into top projects. Proven ability to create and drive technology vision.

  • Experience in leading R&D teams for technology and product development is preferred

  • Experience in filtration is highly desirable
