The purpose of Strategic Product Planning and Development Manager (SPPDM) is to lead the global product planning for the Laboratory business, defining and quantifying new business opportunities to drive product innovations and technical breakthroughs in core and adjacent markets. This business-focused position will work closely with Product Management, R&D, and Commercial leaders to support the development and refinement of the long-term product strategy for Lab through active participation in strategic product planning, and 3-5-year product roadmap. Deliver early stage new product development (through TG3-Design) facilitating tradeoffs with technology and customer needs, and ensure commercial excellence for new product introductions. The successful candidate will be a Continuous Improvement (Danaher Business Systems or DBS) champion for innovation in the Lab business and will lead LEx , P2P, CPD, SIR, and post launch PSP activities. The position will be key in running VOC and assessing the competition and benchmarking the Lab business, and identifying weaknesses, strengths, and opportunities for growth.

This individual will be hands-on and have an eye for detail but also able to see the big picture. Need to be able to think strategically and view the business from a general management standpoint. This person will need to perate with a focus on the customers and an excellent teammate with strong interpersonal and communications skills.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Support the Lab Marketing Director setting the long-term vision and strategy for products and high value workflows, and communicate this strategy to all the relevant participants and partners.

  • Uses understanding of technology and competitive position of defined technology in Lab to identify applications, markets and business segments that provide opportunities for profitable growth.

  • Know customer needs through research and market data and appraises new ideas for market viability

  • Performs deep Competitive analysis including comparing products, quarterly results, new product launches, and future scenario building; capable of communicating competitor strategy and making presentations to Leadership

  • Identifies unmet customer needs and desired outcomes through extensive customer / market research; leads team to build new business cases around opportunities, puts the cases in context of the Roadmap, and presents implications.

  • Designs market surveys qualitative and quantitative, carries out data analysis of results and reports back to relevant partners.

  • Works in close partnership with Product Management and R&D to define new product innovations, technology success criteria, roadmaps, and business opportunities

  • Supports bringing new products to market with return-on-investment analysis, championing launch excellence, and VPM development and implementation

  • Drive improved NPD results by using DBS tools, consulting skills, and change management process. Key tools include the Danaher Software System (DSS), DBS Fundamentals tools, Product Planning Group (PPG), Strategic Innovation Review (SIR), Problem to Portfolio (P2), Accelerated Product Development (APD), Launch excellence ( LEx ), Visual Project Management (VPM), and others.

  • Promote and facilitate associate usage of DBS tools as part of strategy analysis and new product development.

  • Be a valued contributor to evolution of NPD DBS tools. Benchmark and incorporate standard/best methodologies.

  • Provides regular partner/commercial management reviews of projects and programs to assure ongoing alignment with tradeoff decisions needed within the project or program

  • Leads the Product Planning to a successful handoff of all projects to the Commercial Teams and is responsible for the Product Definition throughout the project.

    The SPPDM is responsible for setting a strategy for product development and a workflow vision, working closely with the product managers and Lab Marketing Director. Clearly articulate the business value to all the teams, so they understand the intent behind the new product, product release and workflow focus. The SPPDM owns the roadmap and will prioritize building what matters most to achieve the strategic goals and initiatives behind the product.


    SPPDM owns the creative process of generating, developing, and curating new insights. They work closely with customers, Product Management, and Commercial leaders to determine which ideas should be promoted into features to push the product strategy forward — namely those that will achieve key objectives for the product line and business. To this end, they also ensure that customer feedback, and VOC are seamlessly integrated into their product planning and development processes. Then communicate the status of ideas back to the customers, partners, and internal team members who submitted them.


  • 5+years’ experience in a commercial role

  • Has a solid understanding of the Product Commercialization Process, including stage gate development practices and Launch Excellence

  • Ideally has at least 2 years applying DBS tools to deliver growth back to Danaher

  • Strong skills in verbal and written communication to advocate for the defined portfolio with customers, sales and marketing peers, distributors, and management. Strong abilities to lead presentations and/or training.

  • Experience working independently and with vendors to develop, execute, analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative market, product and customer research.

  • Flexibility to travel of reasonable duration (1-2 weeks), in conjunction with the travel requirements (estimated at up to 30%) and this includes domestic and international trips.

  • Ability to implement and effectively lead multiple projects during a given time frame.

  • Strong digital literacy, including proficiency with Word and Excel

  • Come with a science background.
