Job Title: Staff Scientist

Location: Redwood City, CA

Purpose statement:

The Research Scientist III in the NGS product development department independently conducts bench scientific experimentation that advances the basic science of nucleic acids and nucleic acid biochemistry and assists with development and characterization of new IDT genomics products in NGS, qPCR and CRISPR. This position is involved in new NGS product development and R&D collaboration activities involving the xGen line of NGS products.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads scientific projects exploring NGS assay applications, new product development, and new technology assessment

  • Understand IDT’s NGS products and offer scientific support to other divisions within IDT

  • Independently develop and execute experimental plans with minimal supervision

  • Supervises, trains, and mentors other team members

  • Represent IDT and present work at scientific conferences

  • Assists with training of other scientists

  • Represent R&D in projects with multiple functional groups

  • Write technical protocols, application notes, manuscript, and invention disclosures


  • Significant experience as a bench scientist with large practical knowledge base in molecular biology/biochemistry which can be applied to NGS product development

  • Experienced in experimental design, execution, analysis, and presentation

  • Strong scientific communication skills – both written and verbal

  • Prior hands-on experience with NGS and data analysis preferred

  • BS degree and 10+ years of experience, MS degree and 8+ years of experience, or PhD and 5+ years of experience

  • Ability to train others in basic laboratory techniques and equipment operation.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to multitask and maintain several projects at one time.

  • ExcellentGood verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate with peers and all levels of management.
