The Director of R&D is responsible for leading and driving new product development, design modifications and innovation for a diverse portfolio of histology consumables products with close ties to the histology instruments portfolio.
Provides strategic technology leadership and direction to the histology consumables business (stains, tissue processing reagents and cassettes, embedding paraffins, microscopy slides and ancillaries) to drive competitive advantage and enable markets on a global basis to realize significant market share growth.
Builds long-term strategic product roadmaps, in partnership with the Product Management, Marketing and Sales to integrate the efforts of the global operation.
Leads product development in the design and multidisciplinary development of new products and design transfer to manufacturing. Supports product lifecycle initiatives.
Leads Core Histology Consumables R&D team. Motivates and inspires the multidisciplinary R&D team to commit to and achieve stretch goals.
Grows and cultivates talent while developing technical and leadership capabilities of the R&D team.
Develops and maintains knowledge of the relevant technology trends and competitive developments as input into portfolio strategy.
Ensures that the R&D team maintains compliance with appropriate ISO, FDA and GLP guidelines.
Acts as key scientific liaison/communicate with regulatory bodies, quality assurance groups and customers.
Is a key advisor to business leadership on technical matters.

Required Education, Experience, Skills
Bachelor Degree and experience in chemical, biological sciences, chemical engineering, mechanical or electrical engineering. Advanced degree is desirable.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading product development in regulated environments
People management experience with passion for building successful teams and developing talent.
Experience with guiding product development lifecycle of regulated products through development to successful commercialization. Including, a strong understanding of design control, stage gate development, ISO and FDA requirements for the design, development and manufacturing of medical devices or other regulated products.
Demonstrated experience managing of intellectual property creation; Critical thinking and planning ability.
Experience identifying and scoping technology opportunities for new products.
Travel: Domestic and international travel as required
