Danaher Corporation Transportation Specialist in Richmond, Illinois

Position Summary

The Transportation Specialist will provide a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers and will work closely with material planners and transportation providers for Leica Biosystems Transportation. The incumbent in this role will act as an integral member of the Leica Biosystems Transportation Team. In conjunction with Transportation service, the Transportation Specialist will create and maintain an environment of continuous improvement and cost metrics, as well as focus on ensuring the continuous flow of material from international suppliers to/from Leica Biosystems facilities.

Major Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with Sales, Operations, Distribution, and Customer Service concerning any load/delivery issues as situations arise throughout the life of loads, with creating solutions to solve the problems moving forward.

  • Maintain superior carrier relationships and identify process improvements working with the receiving facilities and carriers.

  • Gather and compile data for KPIs to establish reporting mechanisms for multiple areas of the supply chain in regard to logistics

  • Build consistent relationships and communications with transportation service providers and become knowledgeable of their strengths and weaknesses.

  • Handle all inquiries on transportation delivery issues and follow steps for resolution per management directives.

  • Provide continuous improvement opportunities for both cost and service initiatives through data analysis with internal and external customer engagement.

  • Research and resolve transportation delivery issues by maintaining communication with internal customers on related pick-up and delivery concerns.

  • Maintain database/reports related to shipment tracking, receiving performance, carrier performance, and other reports related to Transportation and Logistics operations.

  • Support management of change with respect to logistics strategies.

  • Responsible for daily monitoring and troubleshooting for our Transportation Management System (TMS) with TMS activities including planning, freight, and freight payment.

  • Resolve, update, and escalate all Exception Level Shipments

  • Track, report, and minimize Carrier Accessorial Charges through the Continuous Improvement Process.

  • Troubleshoot issues and provide necessary support to internal and external customers to achieve desired results.

Required Education, Experience, Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Experience/Skills:

  • Minimum of 3 years of logistics experience is required.

  • Must have proven organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task efficiently in a cross functional, fast pace team environment.

  • Knowledge of the practices, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements involved in logistics is required.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Must possess strong analytical and interpersonal skills, as well as good problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and adjust work based on requirements.

  • Candidate must be self-motivating and have the ability to meet assigned deadlines, as well as perform in high pressured situations.
