LATAM Controller - Leica Microsystems

This very interesting position is located in São Paulo/Barra Funda, Brazil and reports to Sr Finance Director for the Americas region. The position is a hybrid position, that means that the job can be partially performed at home and partially at our offices. The definition of hybrid for this position is in line with the approved practices and will be reviewed later. Specially during immersion, the job has a stronger presence component.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Latin America (LATAM) Controller reports into the North American Finance Director and is responsible for actively managing the accounting function, external and internal financial audits, and internal management reporting. The position is responsible for ensuring the preparation and analysis of all financial reports meeting the needs of the organization and comply with all applicable regulations. This position must maintain an in depth, and up to date knowledge and understanding of both US GAAP and international Accounting principles. Additionally, this position will play a role in and have fiduciary responsibility in Brazil for compliance and protecting the interests of Leica Microsystems and its subsidiaries.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a team of both leaders and individual contributors responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions.

  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results in compliance with US GAAP.

  • Providing management with information vital to decision making.

  • Managing the creation and submission of the regional budget/forecast.

  • Ensure all transactions have full transparency for revenue recognition and/or proper accounting/recording in partnership with Global Controller.

  • Responsible for ensuring Company is compliant with all local statuary reporting requirements and that obligations are met in a timely and accurate manner. This includes all local sales and use tax activity, VAT/GST activity and filing of locally audited country financial statements.

  • Ensure effective internal controls are in place and compliance with GAAP and applicable international and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.

  • Be a key contact to LMS Legal and Compliance functions to ensure that required compliance actions and steps are enacted into practice as would specifically relate to the LATAM operations.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal global stakeholders including Tax, Treasury, FP&A, & Legal.

  • Ensures that Intercompany accounts and loans are managed according to Danaher preferences.

  • Ensure Transfer Pricing initiatives are managed and followed at all levels.

  • Acts as an advisor that troubleshoots and resolves complex problems within multi-departments and/or cross-functional areas.

  • Payroll & Benefits, assuring compliance with local legislation and competitiveness with local benefits.

TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES: (REQUIRED)

  • Complete all assigned and required training satisfactorily and on time.

  • For people managers, ensure your associates attend and complete all required trainings satisfactorily and on time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Professional Accounting Qualification, CPA or local country equivalent with strong experience OR

  • Master’s degree in Accounting and Professional Accounting Qualification, CPA or local country equivalent with strong experience

  • Proven, relevant experience with multinational companies. “Big 4” public Accounting experience preferred.

  • Proved work experience and understanding in the areas of monthly financial close, intercompany transactions, account reconciliations, multi-currency consolidations, and financial reporting.

  • Experience being in management role.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence individuals in various functional areas and different levels of the organization.

  • A proactive self-starter with a desire to learn, innovative inquisitive mindset & ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Works autonomously and appropriately escalates issues to leadership in a timely fashion.

  • Working knowledge of US and International tax concepts.

  • Solid understanding of general ledger systems and foreign currency translation.

  • Strong technical skills including knowledge of US GAAP and sound understanding of financial statement mechanics.

  • Must be results oriented with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to understand issues, demonstrate resourcefulness and pro-actively resolve problems and manage multiple projects in a timely manner.

  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills to research and resolve inquiries and respond in a timely manner.

  • Solid organizational skills: task prioritization and effective time management.

  • Able to handle confidential information in a mature manner.

  • Excels in Global high performing, collaborative, diverse & agile environment.

Other:

  • Mid- to advanced computer skills using Outlook, Word, Excel (ability to perform pivots, V-lookups and other functions with Excel).

  • SAP experience preferred

  • Fluency in English is required, as well as Portuguese and Spanish. These languages are essential to perform the role.
