Description
Molecular Devices is a Danaher operating company with business units focused on BioDiscovery, Biologics and Electronics Note Books (IDBS). The Senior Director of Open Innovation and Strategy is focused on the BioDiscovery and Biologics Business Units for Open Innovation and facilitates strategy planning for all 3 business units. For strategy planning the role works closely with the Molecular Devices President and the leadership of the business units.

The right candidate is able to drive Open Innovation based on the strategic needs of the company. For strategy the right candidate is able to drive process and schedule, and is able to independently do market research for relevant market segments or product initiatives product development to further grow the position of Molecular Devices in the life sciences research market.

Skills and Specifications:

• Exhibits demonstrated expert knowledge of strategy and strategic planning, able to manage complex portfolio strategy • Experienced in innovation project management • Demonstrated negotiation skills with external organizations including academia, other companies and sister Opcos • Has demonstrated cross functional communication skills • Is results driven and can function with ambiguity or incomplete data • Effectively communicates (verbal and written) new insight and ideas with cross-functional team. • Efficiently works under pressure and deadlines, and works to complete assigned tasks on time and on budget. • Able to respond to changes in process, responsibility, or assignment quickly without losing sight of the overall goal. • Works well in a team environment. • Self-confident and self-aware personality, yet a team player • Metrics-driven individual that thinks about measurement of progress

Key Objectives and tasks:

• Manage the Molecular Devices annual strategic planning cycle • Manage the Open Innovation portfolio • Manage the monthly Open Innovation project reviews and quarterly portfolio reviews • Lead the Open Innovation business case reviews prior to portfolio change requests or toll gates • Work on, and implement continuous process improvement including speed design review, problem-to-portfolio processes • Support any requirements for ISO compliance in R&D • Manage the implementation of DBS tools (Visual project management, lean development, etc)

Qualification

• MS. or Ph.D. degree in a Biological Sciences • 3-5 years experience in a business function with a demonstrated deal sheet • Prefer 5-7 years experience in a strategic planning position • Willingness to travel up to 30% of time
