Danaher Corporation Sr. Manager - Manufacturing in San Jose, California

Do you enjoy the challenges of manufacturing? This role will be responsible for managing all aspects of manufacturing for the San Jose location. The site manufactures life sciences instruments, service parts and consumables. The scope includes Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for safety, quality, delivery, inventory and productivity with the objective of continuous improvement for getting results to achieve sustainable plant goals under the oversight and guidance of the Operations Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the shipment goals, business goals, customer requirements and production plans are achieved, and that manufacturing capacity meets the sales plans

  • Manage performance and implement improvements related to cost, quality, schedule, inventory and environmental health & safety activities for the value streams

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate departmental activities to deliver products in a timely, high-quality and cost-effective fashion

  • Identify manufacturing issues and provide leadership in developing solutions

Lean Management Practices

  • Establish and encourage continuous improvement and collaboration internally and externally to Operations through training, associate empowerment, and utilization of DBS tools and concepts

  • Ensure elements of daily management are evident and sustained including root cause analysis for missed metrics

  • Lead and engage employees during Kaizens to drive continuous improvements

  • Lead day and off-shift operations and on-call responsibilities, including weekend shift coverage rotations

  • Partner with Business Unit Leaders and finance to develop budgets for fiscal year

  • Manage assets and make capital investment recommendations based on development of business cases

  • Ensure success of new product development and product transfer to operations

  • Reduce standard costs through improvements in labor productivity, cycle times, expenses, overhead, scrap and material costs

Education, Skills & Experience

  • B.S. with 10+ years’ or MS with 8+ years’ experience in manufacturing operations

  • 5+ years’ experience leading manufacturing value streams in a high mix, low volume environment

  • Ability to influence decision making with or without authority, facilitate groups with diverse perspectives and bring teams to agreement

  • High tolerance for ambiguity and demonstrated success working in a highly matrixed organization

  • Interpersonal skills that build productive relationships and influence others, both within the business and across organizations. Ability to interact with all levels of the business (senior executives through hourly associates); exceptionally good listening skills; and, able to present complex or new ideas with clarity and simplicity

  • Excellent project management and prioritization skills. Solid business acumen. Able to deliver results despite shifting environment

  • Able to identify problems; apply structured and disciplined methodology to identify root cause using data. Innovative and effective solution development, risk mitigation and execution. Hands-on experience with most of the following Lean / Problem solving tools: Lean, voice of the customer, benchmarking, quality function deployment, control charts, standardized work, etc.
