Danaher Corporation Sr. Manager, Innovation Portfolio & Process in Shanghai, China
Essential Duties, Critical Success Factors, Responsibilities and Required Interactions:
This is a leadership role for localization and innovation organization. This role will provide transformation leadership within the LST China team thru the application of DBS innovation engine tools. This includes continuous identification and prioritization of capability gaps, deployment of DBS tools, and implementation of new DBS tools to enhance LST China innovation culture and execution. This role has ownership of using DBS to improve innovation projects portfolio, and to drive process improvements in all innovation projects activities. As the leader, this includes responsibility for managing all the assigned projects and improve project objectives achievement through process standardization, proper project governance, adopting best practices, driving both accountability and efficiency. The role also includes responsibility on creating the most effective way of leveraging the project managers, NPD teams, external partners and DBS leaders under supervision to achieve LST China growth through innovation.
Duties of Senior Manager for Innovation Portfolio :
Formalized and LST company-wide innovation project and program management process
Drive execution of USD200M of project execution by 2025 and collaborate with LST China OPCOs to increase OI & NPD funnel IPV to exceed USD100M.
Use consistent and well-defined process for project selection to ensure the approval of value adding
projects through TG0-TG2 process.
Clearly defined success factors and key performance indicators for each projects based on defined business case requirements.
Elimination of poorly performing projects and programs through Toll-Gate review/approval process
Explore and bring in potential external 3rd party collaborators, companies and research organization for approved joint development projects
Ensure all Projects complied with Danaher IP standard work by working with Danaher IP Counsels and Project teams in order to prevent IP leak.
Assess LST OPCO capability frequently and look for areas for improvement. Use audits not as a form of punishment but as a form of encouragement
Promote internal collaboration – break down silos and create a seamless organization to create inter-opco synergy on technologies in HW, SW and OI.
Establish and enforce DBS process for project and program selection and management
Optimize resource management – Determine resource capabilities and align resources with the appropriate projects. Identify critical resources and establish contingencies to avoid over allocation
Prioritization – establish criteria for prioritization. Determine which projects are critical to the organization's survival and which project and programs will achieve organizational objectives.
Project selection – ROI and what new markets await the organization, what new products can be delivered, how can old products be made expand localized product offerings.
Localization and Innovation performance metrics/Bowler – establish a well-organized and universally applied set of metrics, critical success factors, and key performance indicators for all OPCO. Established project portfolios are monitored closely and compared with performance measures or Bowler that will provide a clear picture of overall condition of the portfolio.
Any other related project activities as assigned by supervisor.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Bachelor or master’s Degree in engineering, Materials Science or similar technical field. MBA preferred
At least 15 years of work experience with demonstrated success in leading cross functional project teams. Hands-on experience implementing improvements in a continuous improvement (DBS, Lean Six Sigma, TPS, etc.), line management or consulting role.
Knowledge of key lean tools: lean and innovation tools i.e. VPM, VPI, VAVE, SDR, APD, SIR, PPG, SPG etc. (or non-DHR equivalents)
Strong leadership and people management skills
Expertise/understanding of operations/manufacturing/supply chain function and can find the right balance between process rigor and creativity.
Good knowledge and handling of project and program management methodology and techniques
Good knowledge of financial planning, budgeting and resource allocation principles
Experience in NPI, technology transfer and production transfer projects is a distinct advantage.
Experience in Product Development, Strategic Sourcing and/or Manufacturing an asset.
Experience and domain knowledge in medical devices or healthcare or life science industry is desirable.
Knowledge of GMP and other applicable regulations preferred.
PMP or equivalent certification is an advantage
Willingness to travel (often internationally), up to 25% of the time
