* Designs, develop and sustain electrical systems and apparatus, such as electric motors, machinery controls, and cable harness. Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications; applying knowledge of electricity and materials. Includes Electro-mechanical subsystems. * Perform Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) work on electronic and electro-mechanical sub-assemblies through the following: * Joint-collaboration with product R&D teams to generate VAVE opportunities in existing products post-product launch as part of product continuous improvement strategies. * Execution upon VAVE ideas through materials cost reduction, product re-engineering, manufacturing and test process easements, combinations thereof, or other. * Leveraging upon external supplier design capabilities to achieve optimal cost within design and quality/reliability constraints of products. * Facilitation of design reviews and FMEA exercises with key suppliers to identify & target cost reduction and product reliability improvements in product. * Adopt Design for Six Sigma Methodology in design/re-design projects as appropriate. * Proactively monitor production first-pass yield data for non-compliant products and perform statistical analyses to differentiate between single occurrence vs significant trends. This is part of the sustenance role. * Apply root cause/counter-measure methodologies to identify most probable contributors against trends, and drive issue to resolution at the appropriate levels (e.g. supplier vs manufacturing vs R&D vs other) * Design reliable electrical solutions to fulfill system/subsystem specifications. * Reviews and approves Engineering Changes to determine impact on regulatory test conducted and to ensure compliance to regulatory standards. * Identifies and conducts regulatory verification tests when Engineering changes have been made to the product that may invalidate previous tests. * Reviews product manuals and labels to ensure inclusion of appropriate regulatory content. * Prepares and communicates to appropriate distribution list, detailed regulatory Verification/ Test Reports on completed tests, including recommendations. * Involve in Product Transfer in process functional tests to aid in debug and diagnosis of various functional modules. Testers will be used to perform fault isolation for faulty or intermittent modules. * Work with suppliers to ensure test codes and hardware meet requirements. Needed to verify and validate new/modified modules. * Ensure compliance of operations within area of concern with all relevant EHS regulatory requirement and SCIEX safety policies, procedures and guidelines. * Other duties/ ad hoc tasks as assigned. *LI-GL1
* Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Electrical /Electronic Engineering or equivalent. * Minimum 5 years of EE/ PCBA/electro-mechanical design experience, preferably in an analytical instrumentation or equivalent industry. * Demonstrated experience in a value analysis / value engineering/product cost reduction environment, including multi-disciplinary engagement with manufacturing, supply chain and contract manufacturers, is a requirement. * Demonstration of a solid understanding of analog / digital and power electronics in a high-voltage/ electro-optics environment is highly desirable. * Demonstrated experience of RoHS product conversion on mixed technology PCBAs is highly desirable. * Demonstrated understanding of how electronic commodity markets behave relative to supply and demand indicators of various industries is highly desirable. * Experience in using CAD/CAE design tools (e.g. schematic entry, simulation & analysis) within a product development or re-engineering environment. * Must demonstrate strong analytical thinking qualities and excellent collaboration skills across functional disciplines. * Working knowledge of the agency standard requirements like CE, CSA FCC, CISPR, EMI (Immunity); examples CSA 61010, EN61000, IEC 60825 and other regulatory standards. * Hands-on test lab experience configuring lab equipment for testing. * Experience in design collaboration with suppliers. * Experience in using Design for Six Sigma methodology is a desirable asset (DFX, Pugh, GDT, DOE, etc.) * Previous experience of the above attributes within an ISO 13485 design & manufacturing environment is highly desirable. * Able be travel on assignment for mid-term (1 -3 months) to facilitate product knowledge transfer between R&D and manufacturing.
