The Solar Application and Lifecycle Manager is a key growth-oriented position within the marketing team. This role has a 50/50 split between application and product lifecycle responsibilities. On the application side, (s)he supports growth by providing application and technical expertise for solar solutions and leading sales enablement for the assigned vertical, and respective products and applications. This includes leading application education, developing sales enablement assets, supporting field sales teams with customer visits and trainings and supporting content marketing programs that develop the interconnectedness of OTT HydroMet’s solutions. This role also ensures fulfillment of new product commercialization, by providing the best application expertise, and aligns application and technology to leverage synergies.

On the product lifecycle side, projects may include a wide-range of topics, including:

  • Product Improvements/Feature Addition Projects

  • Quality Improvement Projects

  • Margin Improvement Projects

  • Price Adjustment Projects

  • Product/Component End-Of-Life Projects

  • Portfolio management and OEM Projects

A successful Solar Application and Lifecycle Manager is customer focused, technical, and action oriented, and possesses strong organizational agility to lead by influence to support regional and global growth initiatives. This position also assumes responsibility for cross-functional company and/or Marketing-wide initiatives and meetings as required.


  • Responsible for solar revenue growth.

  • Maintains a high level of technical and solar monitoring application expertise from sensor technology to data management, including dataloggers, telemetry, and software to:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain sales enablement tools for global sales teams such as competitive overviews, application presentations, value sell documents, quick reference notes, training material, etc.

  • Support Content team with the development of customer facing assets.

  • Manage or support internal and external training programs.

  • Create and deliver effective application presentations at sponsored seminars, webinars and conferences

  • Works closely with front line sales in priority countries in mature and high-growth markets to consult, visit, and educate key customers.

  • Support Global Product Managers and Field Sales team in Beta test trials.

  • Provide key market insight to direct sales and marketing to facilitate development of strategic business and marketing plans. Also provides voice-of-customer and application insight to product planning and development teams.

  • Analyzes the product line and portfolio performance, including sales, profitability, volume, price and inventory to convert analysis into insights, strategy and drive countermeasure activities on revenue and engineering/operations to address profitability issues.

  • Actively and effectively manages existing product portfolio, including, product enhancements, phase-out, obsolescence, documentation, etc. Works closely with the sales, technical service, and customer service organization to understand issues with the existing products; from features, performance, to packaging and drives changes to ‘delight’ the customer. Drives (R&D) projects through the organization that are addressing part obsolescence, quality improvements, and/or cost reduction initiatives.

  • Lead product quality from an application, customer use-model, and technical perspective. This includes ownership of root cause and countermeasures with collaboration of operations, support and sales teams and communication of this activity to the commercial teams and customers when necessary.

  • Provides leadership and priorities from the Marketing Vertical to the R&D Maintenance Funnel projects for their product portfolio.

  • Conducts annual product portfolio audit to determine opportunities for reducing part numbers and inventory in the system (PP5S).

  • Actively supports the annual commercial planning process and other cross-functional initiatives.


  • Trusted application advisor with high level of technical and solar monitoring application expertise.

  • Experienced in customer facing / problem solving environments.

  • Ability to connect technology to commercial / customer problems resulting in economic value.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical customers as well as with Senior Management in a clear, concise and evidence based manner. Requires proven ability to speak before large groups.

  • Strong willingness to adjust to changing environment, technology and customer.

  • Takes the time with tenacity to consistently meet or exceed goals and objectives.

  • Quickly assess new situations, prioritizes the critical few tasks and objectives.

  • Has a deep understanding of the business issues including key drivers and root causes.

  • Understanding of trends impacting the overall business and product line.


  • BA, BS or MS degree required. MBA is a plus. A degree in a science or engineering related field such as Solar, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering or equivalent is preferred.

  • 5+ years of technical applications experience in solar applications, products and services required.

  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills required.

  • Must exhibit the willingness and ability to assimilate technical information quickly.

  • Must have good computer skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.)

  • Ability to establish credibility and trust internally with all levels of the organization and externally with customers; ability to work with and influence cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrates exemplary written and verbal communication skills.

  • Direct customer commercial/sales experience is preferred.

  • Strong critical thinking skills; ability to synthesize data and facts to draw logical and actionable conclusions.

  • Ability to travel 40%, including domestic and international travel primarily in North America, Europe and APAC.

  • Fluent in English.
