Phenomenex is currently seeking a Research Associate to join a rapidly growing team to innovate and advance separation sciences in the field of biologics (mRNA, gene therapy, oligonucleotides, mAbs, nucleic acids, proteins, etc). This position is a unique opportunity for a talented scientist to dissect and understand the separation problems facing analytical biochemists in characterizing and quantifying modalities for Gene Therapy and mRNA therapeutic development along with antibody/protein and other related functions.
The Research Associate is responsible for working with the Senior Research Scientist for emerging modalities Applications and Development and with other R&D and Marketing groups, to understand the separation problems facing analytical biochemists to develop new chromatographic solutions that highlight Phenomenex products in strategically important industries and/or application areas.
This position may also involve working directly with customers to identify the needs and ultimately helping implement proposed solutions in their labs. Research Scientist will be guiding Phenomenex R&D in new development initiatives as well as in the application of the existing Phenomenex technology portfolio. This position requires good experience in analyzing mRNA and other genomic medicine modalities. Experience with proteins, antibodies and related species is also valued.
This role will be temporarily located in Mansfield, MA for 12-18 months, until co-locating with Danaher companies Pall and Cytiva in Marlborough, MA. Our scientists work in a hybrid model going into the lab a few days weekly and working remotely from their home office a few days.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Study and understand analytical separation needs and problems within rapidly growing and/or strategic areas of Genomic medicines including mRNA and Gene therapy therapeutic platforms, including sample preparation needs
Provide expertise in analytical methods and problem solving within rapidly growing and relevant strategic areas of separation science as they relate to Genomic medicines including mRNA and Gene Therapy therapeutic platforms
Support the development of novel, scalable, and competitive new products, and technologies to meet new Genomic medicines demands, including benchmarking, evaluation methods, and critical applications
Maintain records of all experiments and graph all relevant trend data along with appropriate controls and blanks. Develop HPLC, LCMS/MS and SPE methods and applications
Support and provide feedback for the research and product development process. Support Marketing/Sales to produce relevant literature, application notes, brochures, etc.
Master’s degree in biochemistry (or closely related field) with min of 2 years of experience with analytical biochemistry of nucleic acids, antibodies, and proteins -OR- B.S. in biochemistry (or closely related field) with min 5 years of experience
Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in LC/MS of nucleic acids, proteins and biomolecules required
Minimum 1+ years’ experience in biopharmaceutical and genomic medicines
Travel as required (15%) to meet program goals

Ensures all work is accurate and free of errors/defects
Analytical thinking and presenting ideas
Experience in Microsoft Office and Database Management
Must be able to present clearly to large groups, i.e., seminars, project updates, research updates
Extensive knowledge of HPLC, LCMS/MS, and SPE techniques
