Danaher Corporation Sr. Manager, Molding Research and Development in Stockton, California

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be a technical lead with subject matter expertise for the design and development of world class injection molding concepts (hardware and software) for high-volume consumable plastic components for medical device manufacturing.

  • Work with manufacturing and management to identify opportunities for new molding technology, automation, and robotics to reduce COGS and improve quality.

  • Proactively identify risks in the design of parts, molds, and methods associated with injection molded consumables.

  • Use CAD modeling, prototyping, molding simulation CAE data, D/PFMECA, and hands-on testing to develop and enhance molding technology, process robustness, and provide data driven technical feasibility assessments of new manufacturing concepts.

  • Objectively utilize statistical methods, process data, DOE, and root cause analyses to identify required improvements to injection molding tools and processes such that robust performance at high manufacturing efficiencies is enabled.

  • Support specification, sourcing, project management, and/or acceptance (FAT/SAT) of molding projects to support Cepheid manufactures globally.

  • Lead/Participate in Kaizen and structured problem-solving activities.

  • Determine impact of part and process changes as they relate to Cepheid business plan.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple, concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Enforce high standards for all consumables products such that technical issues are resolved, and continuous improvement is relentlessly pursued.

  • Create, revise, update procedures/work instructions, qualification documents, and related technical reports with ability to articulate statement of work itemization to both internal and external parties.

  • Provide daily leadership to direct reports and cross-functional team to deliver on current projects and metrics

  • Leads and develop direct reports to drive their engagement and assures a constant organizational development. Maintain team goals, organizational assessments & reviews, and succession planning within a structured HR process

  • Ensuring goals are met in areas including cost, timing, scope, safety, quality, customer satisfaction, associate engagement, and team member performance.

  • Interface with senior management to communicate/ report progress and provide updates regarding the projects

TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES: (REQUIRED)

  • Complete all assigned and required training satisfactorily and on time

  • For people managers, ensure your associates attend and complete all required trainings satisfactorily and on time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

  • BS/MS in Mechanical, Plastics, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience to perform at this level.

  • 8+ years of direct related experience in large-scale, ISO regulated injection molding.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated expertise related to plastics material properties, molding process development, and tooling design, materials and manufacturing.

  • Working knowledge (or better) of GMP, ISO, and FDA rules, regulatory requirements, and quality management systems.

  • Understands Lean Manufacturing principles and structured problem-solving methodology (DMAIC, Kaizen, quality core tools, Danaher Business System, Toyota Production System, etc.)

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, and the demonstrated ability to work with and lead cross-functional teams effectively; the ability to work through organizational barriers

  • Ability to compose and execute FAT, SAT, IQ/OQ, and PQ validation phases

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, MiniTab, and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Experience with creating drawings, BOMs, product specifications, and engineering drawings.

Physical requirements/abilities

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must be able to work in typical office, shop floor and factory environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MS preferred, in an engineering discipline.

  • Experience in medical device injection molding in ISO13485 compliant operations.

  • RJG certification or equivalent plastics industry formal training is strongly desired.

  • Expertise with in-mold sensors (e.g., RJG, Priamus), automated inspection & handling systems, closed loop work-cells, and all associated Industry 4.0 connectivity.

  • Expertise in multi-shot injection molding

  • Expertise in valve gated hot runner systems

  • Experience with LSR (Liquid Silicone Rubber) molding

  • PMP project management certification

  • Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent.
