Danaher Corporation Automation Controls Engineer in Sunnyvale, California
The Equipment Automation Controls Engineer works in conjunction with the entire Automation Engineering team to design and develop automated assembly equipment for high-volume production of diagnostic consumables.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for configuring, programming, testing and troubleshooting PLC based control systems and associated components (Motion controllers, Heater Controllers, Robots, etc.)
Responsible for the User Interface (UI) Design, configuration, programming, testing and troubleshooting of automated equipment
Responsible for designing and maintaining vision system used in production (i.e. Cognex/Keyence)
Responsible for designing and creating the electrical schematics (within UL/IEC compliance) required to build a high complexity automation system
Create documentation including, but not limited to design input requirements, specifications, testing protocols, installation, and service procedures
Author acceptance test and validation protocols and reports
Responsible for specific design reviews required to obtain the necessary DIR’s (Design Input Requirement) to build high complex automation equipment for all phases of the design process
Modify existing capital equipment to improve product quality, increase part throughput, decrease cost, and strengthen safety measures
Perform change orders and release processes using Agile
Maintain strict compliance with ISO13485, cGMP, QSR, and other applicable Quality Management System standards
Assist Manufacturing Engineering group with troubleshooting floor equipment when required
TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES: (REQUIRED)
- Complete all assigned and required training satisfactorily and on time
Education and Experience (in years):
Bachelor’s degree in field with 5+ years of related work experience OR
Master’s degree in field with 3+ years of related work experience OR
Doctoral degree in field with 0-2 years of related work experience.
Knowledge and skills:
Proficient in Allen-Bradley PLC ControlLogix Platform and development tools
Proficient with motion controllers and Vision Inspection Systems
Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical troubleshooting in a high-volume, automated manufacturing environment
In-depth knowledge of IEC 61010 compliance for automation equipment
In-depth knowledge of EN ISO 13849-1, -2, IEC 62061, NFPA-79 and NFPA-70
Proficient with creating equipment electrical schematics under AutoCAD Electrical
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with a strong technical presence
Proficient in MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must be able to stand for several hours. Work may involve repetitive arm/wrist motions.

Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering field with minimum of 5 years of related work experience
Experience developing Medical equipment in an FDA regulated environment
Experience troubleshooting complex systems, technologically diverse systems, and capital equipment
Experience with a variety of sensor technologies (thermal, optical, position, pressure, flow, etc.)
Experience writing/executing IQ, OQ, and PQ Protocols
Experience using Agile PLM system
Understanding of SQL database
