Danaher Corporation Category Manager in Sunnyvale, California


Negotiates favorable terms, volume discounts and long-term contracts with suppliers. Engages with internal business units to partner with in the selection of suppliers. Analyses and identifies opportunities to optimize Supply base management. Conducts RFPs and improves and documents standard work for the Indirect materials. Drive ongoing supplier optimization and continuous improvement.


  • Serves as Supply Chain Subject matter expert on supported categories. Drives RFPs across commodities pulling in other Danaher OpCos when applicable. Ensures continuity of supply and maintains proper inventory levels through Supplier stocking agreements.

  • Specializes in procurement, cost reduction, inventory control and process control.

  • Capable of leading cross functional teams, including planning, manufacturing, logistics, etc…to resolve supply related issues and improve supplier performance.

  • Provides inputs to engineering, NPI or Commodity team in supplier selection and assessment.

  • Drives problem analysis and initiates improvement activities to streamline business processes for the procurement function and drives the documentation and implementation of enhanced business processes.

  • Participate or manage company-wide, multi-level, collaborative decision to set up or change cross-functional processes with other departments. Provide leadership over cross functions and complex projects for efficiencies.

  • Monitors the cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure highest quality at best value.


Education or Experience (in years):

  • Bachelors Degree with 5+ years experience

Knowledge and skills:

  • Demonstrates depth and/or breadth of expertise in own specialized discipline or field

  • Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services

  • Experience with purchasing SOP's, GMP, JIT, ERP and should have experience with APICS principles.

  • Candidate should be comfortable and adept at Word, Powerpoint, and Excel applications.

  • May lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity in solving complex problems; using sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgment and identify innovative solutions


  • Proven skills in presenting to Sr. level management

  • 2 yrs. of data analysis using Excel or Business Intelligence.

  • Formal Negotiation training

  • APICS certification
