Danaher Corporation Director, Instruments Supplier Engineering in Sunnyvale, California

Essential job responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of Supplier Development engineers/managers, growing and mentoring them to support a multi-billion-dollar business.

  • Be responsible for permanent improvement of external supply quality including yield, process, and design improvements

  • Monitor suppliers' performance through KPIs, SPC, and preventative measures. Use data analytics to make recommendations on actions.

  • Guide suppliers on non-conformities and root-cause analysis

  • Work closely across Supplier Quality, Quality Assurance, Procurement, R&D and Regulatory Affairs

  • Participate/conduct process audits, recommendations on supplier selection, capability assessments, qualification, and coordination of change control activities for purchased goods and services.

  • Identify, quantify, prioritize, and drive supplier improvement projects including supplier recommended design changes to internal engineering teams.

  • Drive resolution to systemic supply chain issues affecting quality, cost, delivery, or lead-time, which may include engagement with sub-tiers in the supply chain.

  • Drive Cepheid requirements at the supplier, while representing supplier capabilities within Cepheid

  • Review, drive corrective actions and approve supplier issues (Non-conforming material, corrective action requests, etc.).

  • Align with Commodity Management and Purchasing leaders to implement global sourcing strategies for the commodities assigned by focusing on the lowest total cost of ownership and flexibility through supplier segmentation, development, and management.

  • Engage in the NPI process to ensure timely product releases/improvements and align with the commodity strategies.

  • Develop a professional relationship with key suppliers through executive meetings and execution of the defined business metrics.

  • Demonstrate leadership experience with strong social competence and communications skills

  • Good knowledge of QMS and ISO 13485, MDD/MDR, ISO 9001 and GMP

Minimum requirements:

Education or Experience (in years):

  • BS or BA degree, preferably in Life Science, Engineering or Business discipline

  • 14+ years in procurement, supplier engineering, strategic sourcing, and/or commodity management role

  • 5+ years in a people management position

  • 5+ years of international business experience

Knowledge and skills:

  • Lean Six Sigma

  • Strong business acumen

  • Exceptional written and verbal skills

Other:

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: (Delete this section if not applicable)

  • MBA or equivalent degree

  • Experience in a regulated industry, such as the medical device industry

  • Experience with medical device manufacturing
