Job Title: Manufacturing Engineering Equipment Engineer II

Introduction to the Role:

The Equipment Engineer will have the responsibility to sustain, maintain and improve the equipment performance of consumables production automation equipment in a high volume manufacturing environment at the Sunnyvale factory. Role will require hands on engagement at the tool, troubleshooting mechanical, electro-mechanical, electrical and automation controls and implementing solutions for chronic/systemic problems.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform troubleshooting and corrective maintenance on custom automation equipment

  • Execute Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks

  • Generate, write and continuously improve PM procedures

  • Implement continuous improvement projects on manufacturing automation equipment

  • Complete Engineering Change Orders (ECO) to Work Instructions, Tool (IOPQ) Protocols, Drawings and BOM lists

  • Drive initiatives to improve product quality, increase part throughout, decrease equipment downtime, and strengthen safety measures

  • Train equipment maintenance technicians

  • Work with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues

  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services

  • Writing and following established maintenance procedures

  • Ability to drive design changes on equipment to improve performance

  • Drive improvement of equipment metrics (MTTR and MTBF)


  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of relevant experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

  • Hands-on equipment experience with hand tools and machine shop tooling expertise

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with a strong technical presence

  • Good Understanding of mechanical design concepts and machinery: Electrical, Mechanical, and Electromechanical schematics, motors, pumps, vacuum, and hydraulics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Plastic Injection Molding a plus

  • Knowledge and proficiency in Solidworks CAD modeling a plus

  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

  • Lean 5S Manufacturing knowledge

  • PLC and Control Systems

  • Robotics

  • Agile Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)

  • Project Management skills

  • Vision and Laser Systems

  • Equipment retrofit upgrades and qualifications
