Danaher Corporation Manager, Lab & Safety in Sunnyvale, California
The R&D Lab & Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring lab personnel, processes and equipment are compliant for Bio-safety and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) guidelines provided by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) and California OSHA. This role will support research and development projects across 7 organizations (Infectious Disease, Oncology, Innovation Technology, Clinical Affairs, Medical & Scientific Affairs and specialized Engineering groups. Cepheid R&D is growing in personnel, product menu and lab space. This role will provide you with an opportunity learn from different technical functions and create optimal workspace in our current and future labs.
This position is part of the R&D Infectious Disease and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA. The R&D Lab Management team is committed to supporting the needs of new product research and development teams by sustaining a safe work environment and by strategizing opportunities for improvement through feedback from associates.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Ensure that all procedures are compliant for bio-safety and include opportunities to improve Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) performance: waste minimization, prevention of pollution and prevention of workplace accidents and injuries.
Inspect labs for compliance with regulations and guidelines pertaining to the use, handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
Manage lab layouts, setups and infrastructure maintenance according to the number of active projects and space requirements.
Perform 1st level triage on lab technical issues associated with computers, GeneXpert instruments or general lab equipment (debug station setup, swap device/SW versions, troubleshoot data connection issues, analyze reported error logs, etc…)
The essential requirements of the job include:
BS with 9+ years of experience, or MS degree with 7+ years of lab management experience at a molecular diagnostics company, public health laboratory or similar institution.
Ability to work in a BSL-2 laboratory environment which requires Hepatitis B vaccination. If you are not vaccinated, Cepheid will provide authorization to receive the vaccination series at no expense.
Problem-solving/troubleshooting skills that can translate to direct guidance of team. members through complex issues
Project tracking tools to support efficient communication though 1-1, team and department presentations.
Develop and write bio-safety SOPs.
Coordinate and schedule lab equipment maintenance and calibration.
Maintain and manage lab stockroom to ensure supplies are appropriately stocked.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Creating and sustaining a bio-repository lab to support project needs. Clinical specimen types include but are not limited to (blood, urine, stool, sputum, swabs collected from nasal, nasal-pharyngeal, pharyngeal, rectal, vaginal and endocervical)
Proficiency with standard Microsoft computer programs.
