Danaher Corporation Manager, Laboratory Maintenance in Sunnyvale, California

POSITION SUMMARY:

Manufacturing Operations in Sunnyvale are comprised of production of in-vitro diagnostic test kits for Infectious diseases and oncology. The ideal candidate will ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in all the manufacturing work cells and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) in all the manufacturing and Quality Control laboratories. A successful candidate must be a high-energy tactical execution expert and a team player with a friendly can-do attitude. Highly organized with strong analytical capabilities and communication skills, independently motivated, a resourceful individual with the ability to prioritize and excel in a fast-paced environment. This position supports all labs and personnel for the entire Sunnyvale Manufacturing organization with 24x7 operation.

Scope of responsibilities will include opportunities for cost savings and process improvements. The ability

to apply tactical skills in a collaborative environment with cross-functional departments is highly desirable

for fast impact and on-time completion of deliverables. The ideal candidate will be highly goal-oriented,

organized and able to thrive in an atmosphere of shifting demands and priorities.

The candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to recognize

the need for escalation to upper management and/or stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be able to

clearly and comfortably delegate both routine and important tasks and decisions.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage new hire on-boarding program for Laboratory access.

  • Serve as an active member of Cepheid’s Biohazard Use Review Committee.

  • Ensure that all procedures are compliant for biosafety and include opportunities to improve

  • Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) performance: waste minimization, prevention of pollution

and prevention of workplace accidents and injuries.

  • Maintain copies and track compliance with all Biosafety regulatory permits.

  • Manage lab cleaning schedules with direct reports and Facilities team.

  • Maintain and manage lab stockroom to ensure supplies are appropriately stocked.

  • Inspect labs for compliance with regulations and guidelines pertaining to the use, handling and

disposal of potential biohazards.

  • Coordinate lab inspections from regulatory agencies.

  • Enforce lab safety and compliance policies.

  • Builds trust and collaborative relationships with all personal interactions with ability to influence

change through effective communication.

  • Manage lab layouts, setups and infrastructure maintenance according to the number of active

projects and space requirements.

  • Drive progress for lab expansion/renovation projects.

  • Has formal manager responsibilities that include setting objectives and deliverables and

managing tasks, priorities, performance and career development.

  • Drive for continuous improvement; develop best strategies to coordinate and minimize manual

work.

  • Document and implement guidelines to create standards to enable scientists, engineers, facilities

and third-party vendors to follow best practices.

  • Develop and write biosafety SOPs.

  • Coordinate and schedule lab equipment maintenance and calibration.

  • Ability to perform 1st level triage on lab technical issues associated with computers, GeneXpert

instruments or general lab equipment (debug station setup, swap device/SW versions,

troubleshoot data connection issues, analyze reported error logs, etc.)

  • Constantly monitor and report on progress, problems and solutions to upper management.

  • Present lab inspection findings, lab safety updates and performance metrics at Organization

  • Demonstrated ability to apply analytical problem-solving skills to processes to identify critical

performance factors.

  • Allocate time and resources efficiently, effectively prioritize, and continually seek innovative ways

to meet individual, team and corporate goals.

  • Be highly goal-oriented and organized with the ability to adapt and thrive in an atmosphere of

shifting demands and priorities.

  • Ability to handle competing priorities with multi-functional stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage through ambiguity by creating structure that enables the ability to escalate,

pinpoint a specific ask, need for support or guidance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education or Experience (in years):

  • BS with 9+ years of experience, or MS degree with 7+ years of lab management experience at a

molecular diagnostics company, public health laboratory or similar institution.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with proper laboratory safety and housekeeping practices.

  • Hands-on and fluent with basic lab equipment.

  • Proven experience in people management.

  • Working knowledge of quality documentation management systems.

  • Strong problem-solving/troubleshooting skills that can translate to direct guidance of team.

  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft computer programs.

Physical requirements/abilities:

  • Ability to work in an office environment. Ability to work in a BSL-2 laboratory environment.
