Danaher Corporation Scientist I in Sunnyvale, California
The Scientist I position is in the Oncology R&D group and is primarily a bench level job focusing on design and development of molecular based assays for Oncology. The ideal candidate will help to develop and optimize real time PCR and RT-PCR assays for cancer diagnostics particularly hematologic and circulating tumor DNA mutations. Candidates will plan and execute laboratory research, demonstrate appropriate technical proficiency and scientific creativity. The candidate will be encouraged to interface with various internal departments as well as external agencies and collaborators. Responsible for the investigation of new technologies and experimentation directed at the practical application of scientific theories.
Evaluate, test and develop new procedures.
Performs real-time PCR optimization experiments using DOE (Design of Experiments)
Design primers and probes.
Performs analytical verification studies to demonstrate GeneXpert assay performance based on design input requirements.
Follows product development lifecycle process and design control.
Competent with fundamentals of assay prototyping.
Maintains detailed experimental records and documents results in a technical report in a laboratory notebook.
Analyzes data using statistical tools such as Microsoft Excel or Minitab.
Present data at technical meetings.
Minimum RequirementsEducation and Experience
PhD with 0-2 years of related work experience or Master’s with 3+ years of related work experience or Bachelor’s degree in field with 5+ years of related work experience
Knowledge & Skills
Advanced knowledge of Real time PCR or RT-PCR and Nucleic Acid extraction
Product development experience.
Ability in developing new assays and/or test methods/procedures to build and deliver products on aggressive timelines.
Proven problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
Possess skills/knowledge in handling clinical samples and be able to work in a BSL-2 environment.
Strong experience with lab documentation and reporting.
Knowledge of biological and chemical safety
Research experience with an emphasis in Oncology is a plus
Familiarity with circulating tumor DNA mutation and hematologic malignancy analysis is a plus
Collaborative and open-minded
Help write verification SOPs and technical reports.
Excellent documentation and communications skills.
Proficiency with standard Microsoft computer programs.
Be highly goal-oriented and organized and be able to thrive in an atmosphere of shifting demands and priorities.
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a cross-functional team-based environment and with outside collaborators is a requirement.
