The Senior Manager – Business Application Testing role leads the IT applications testing function and ensures Cepheid IT use the best testing methodologies and tools to increase the quality of our application deployments while optimizing the effort needed.
Essential job responsibilities:
Establish a robust application testing methodology to increase Cepheid IT’s testing maturity and the quality of our application deployments
Work with IT partners to embed the testing methodology into Cepheid’s SDLC process
Promote the use of test automation for regression testing and also as early as possible in the development process
Run the suite of testing tools used by Cepheid IT (e.g Tricentis Tosca) and identify and implement new tools to support other testing process (e.g. electronic management of manual testing and computer system validation)
Plan and lead the test effort on some large projects, including estimating the effort required
Advise project managers on the most efficient testing approaches to use for their respective projects and help them plan resource requirements.
Lead a team of insourced/outsourced testers or test engineers that complement the application development teams by providing test automation support and performing some testing activities
Lead external providers to deliver on committed SLAs for testing activities
Evaluate, select and supervise new vendors (applications or consulting) when needed to support testing requirements not covered by existing partners or solutions
Regularly communicate testing status and application quality (defects) within IT and to project partners and sponsors
Education and Experience (in years):
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business, or related field or the equivalent in work experience.
10+ years of experience with the testing of enterprise applications, including SAP and other packaged applications as well as SaaS and bespoke applications on multiple technologies
5+ years in a Testing Lead role, running an insourced/outsourced team of test engineers and testers
Knowledge and skills:
Experience developing testing approaches for business applications ( SAP and Salesforce) that include both manual and automated testing
Experience working in an FDA-regulated company and familiarity with Computer Systems Validation requirements, testing processes and artefacts
Sound knowledge of software testing concepts, principles, techniques and methodologies
Experience implementing and leading electronic test management solutions, to support both automated testing and manual testing as well as defect management
Deep knowledge of test automation solutions, with good knowledge of Tricentis Tosca
Experience with test data management methodologies across multiple integrated systems
Experience using testing metrics for decision-making and process improvement
Understanding of major business processes in a global manufacturing company (Order Management, Supply Chain, Finance, Manufacturing, Quality)
Strong relationship building skills, within IT and the business user community
Good ability to influence others and to work effectively in a multi-functional and cross-regional matrixed environment.
Ability to identify, clarify and resolve testing project issues and risks as needed.
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to set clear goals for the team, motivate, support and guide them and get the best performance out of them
Good analytical problem solving and fact-finding skills
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
A passion for quality, testing and continuous improvement
Software testing certification
Advanced knowledge of SAP ERP and Salesforce
