Are you looking for your next leadership opportunity? Phenomenex is seeking a strategic, influential leader to join our organization as the Director of Supply Chain in Torrance, CA!


The Director of Supply Chain will lead Phenomenex’s supplier management function to increase flexibility and scalability to further enable growth, while at the same time supporting the business model through material cost improvement, supplier optimization and inventory objectives.

Duties and responsibilities:

Defines and implements best-in-class sourcing strategies, supplier performance, risk management policies and inventory controls. Leads all aspects of activities related to the procurement of raw materials, distributed products, components, tooling, equipment, supplies, and purchased services, from intent to purchase through delivery of the commodity. Leads, constructs and negotiates complex business arrangements for all goods and services. Leads and owns all inventories and material planning processes. Visits major vendors to discuss issues/concerns and to maintain good relationships as required. Approves all new vendors and maintains the approved vendor list.

Implements and runs preferred supplier selection/metrics and owns the vendor rating system. Leads and champions cost reduction programs to meet objectives. Develops and maintains an effective organization through the selection, training, compensation, and motivation of department personnel. Provides support to manufacturing indicators, including but not limited to customer service numbers and inventory dollars, and vendor performance ratings. Prepares instructions regarding procurement systems and procedures. Analyzes market and delivery conditions to resolve present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports.

  • Develops a system to evaluate vendor quotations that utilize appropriate negotiation and procurement techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service.

  • Designs, implements, leads, and supervises procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements.

  • Recruits and maintains suppliers that provide high-quality products and services at a better price while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct.

  • Prepares and issues purchase orders and change notices

  • Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.

  • Develops and installs clerical and office procedures and practices, and studies workflow, sequence of operations, and office arrangement to resolve expediency of installing new or improved office machines.

  • Leverages spend at Phenomenex and Danaher levels to optimize supply base and savings.

  • Understands and implements corporation policies regarding the ethical conduct of procurement activities.

  • Prepares and coordinates an annual department budget.

Knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or another relevant field

  • Ten years of experience in Procurement

  • 3+ years of experience in management role

  • AX experience and knowledge strongly preferred

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
