The Technical Lead, Systems Software will champion and lead the development of high-performing, well-designed embedded software for digital pathology scanners, which are high precision and automated electro-mechanical instruments for high resolution scans of pathological samples. The candidate will guide the teams to ensure we continue to place high priority on technical integrity while aggressively meeting customer and business needs. The candidate will work closely hardware engineering and product management to ensure the development of best-in-class scanners.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Oversee design and architecture for complex software systems

  • Perform assessments and provide guidance on technology and tooling utilized for development of innovative software solutions

  • Actively evaluate and introduce software technologies to improve efficiency and productivity of current software development process

  • Provide technical leadership to team members overcoming challenging technical hurdles through development

  • Collaborate with multi-functional partners to define strategies to meet business needs without compromise to future sustainability and scalability

  • Work closely with hardware technical leads and manufacturing to troubleshoot complex systems issues

  • Collaborate technical and product leaders to create a technical roadmap and future vision to accommodate a dynamic and high potential clinical market in digital pathology including interface and integration with other internal and external systems

  • Perform Critical Design Reviews and challenge development teams to maintain a standard for high performant and exceptional quality embedded software solutions

  • Support generation of systems software product requirements and lead generation of detailed engineering requirements and specifications

  • Adhere to existing design controls and quality management system processes

Required Education, Experience, Skills:

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s (preferred) degree in electrical, computer engineering, or equivalent

  • A minimum of 6+ years’ experience in embedded software development and architecture for complex systems

Experience/Skills:

  • Embedded software and firmware experience interfacing with cameras (CameraLink, GigE), motion control devices, sensors, and motors.

  • Minimum 6+ years' experience in modern C++ development

  • Proficient in embedded firmware development for microcontrollers with peripherals (UART, I2C, SPI, etc.)

  • Expert in Linux-based software system development (Ubuntu, or Buildroot/Yocto)

  • A thorough understanding of the software development life cycle and associated processes.

  • Proficient in Windows based software development tools and build environments (Visual Studio)

  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies

  • Experience in medical product development environment (FDA, ISO) with exposure to design control regulations preferred
