What you’ll do
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data & ETL Migration Engineer to join our new established team. In this role, you will lead and drive complex data and Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) migration projects, utilizing your deep understanding of data management, ETL processes, and expertise in data extraction, transformation, and loading techniques. As a senior member of the team, you will provide guidance, mentorship, and technical leadership to a cross-functional organization of IT and Business, ensuring the successful execution of data migration initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Data Migration Strategy and Planning:
Lead the design and development of comprehensive data migration strategies and plans, considering the organization's data needs and objectives.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define data migration requirements, priorities, and timelines.
Provide expert guidance on data mapping, transformations, ETL processes, and data governance best practices.
ETL Architecture and Development:
Design and architect scalable and efficient ETL solutions, leveraging industry-leading tools and technologies.
Develop and implement complex ETL processes, ensuring the accurate and timely migration of data from multiple source systems to target systems.
Employ advanced SQL techniques, scripting languages, and custom code to handle complex data transformations and manipulations.
Data Quality Assurance:
Define and implement robust data quality assurance processes and techniques to ensure the integrity and accuracy of migrated data.
Lead efforts to identify and resolve data quality issues, working closely with stakeholders to implement appropriate remediation strategies.
Establish and enforce data governance practices and standards throughout the migration process.
Performance Optimization and Scalability:
Optimize ETL processes for performance, scalability, and efficiency, utilizing techniques such as query optimization, parallel processing, and data partitioning.
Conduct performance tuning and monitoring activities, analyzing ETL execution plans and optimizing resource utilization.
Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in the data and ETL domain, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance overall migration capabilities.
Team Leadership and Collaboration:
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, guiding them in solving complex data and ETL migration challenges.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data architects, business analysts, and project managers, to ensure successful project delivery.
Foster a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment, promoting best practices and continuous improvement within the data and ETL migration team.
Documentation and Reporting:
Create comprehensive technical documentation, including data mapping specifications, ETL process flows, and performance optimization strategies.
Generate regular reports on data and ETL migration progress, highlighting key milestones, risks, and issues to project stakeholders.
Who you are
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex data and ETL migration projects.
Extensive experience in designing and implementing ETL solutions using industry-leading tools and technologies (e.g., Informatica, Talend, SSIS).
Advanced proficiency in SQL and solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL) and data integration patterns.
Strong expertise in data modelling principles, data profiling, data quality assurance, and data governance practices.
Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell scripting) for automation and data manipulation tasks.
Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a track record of resolving complex data-related issues.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively mentor team members and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
