This position is part of the Microbiology Development Science team nested within Beckman Coulter and is located in West Sacramento, CA. At Microbiology, our vision is to ensure we that every patient has access to the right antibiotic at the right time as one of the leading ID/AST companies. You will be an integral part of the Research and Development team and report to the Sr Manager, Development Science.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Design and develop complex antimicrobial assays and sample preparation methods consisting of reagents, consumables, and instrumentation with clinical bacterial and yeast specimens to produce best in class Antibiotic Susceptibility Tests for Beckman Coulter’s Microbiology systems.
Evaluate current and emerging technologies and protocols used within clinical laboratories and guide product development activities to align with strategic business and project objectives.
Work cross-functionally and collaborate frequently with Research and Development departments, Operations, Supply Chain/Procurement, Quality, Regulatory, and Marketing; additionally, working cross-site and with outside partners in other time zones will be equally important in achieving maximum impact.
Routinely communicate and present on detailed experimental plans and studies, project status, requirements, gaps, and countermeasures to project core teams and the leadership team.
Develop and maintain detailed experimental protocols and quality documentation; collaborate with team members to assure common understanding of the development process and project goals.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Bachelor's degree in clinical microbiology or related subject and 5+ years' experience working in product development role; a master’s degree with 2+ years of experience in product development or PhD in a discipline such as Microbiology or a related field with 1+ year of proven experience.
Work experience should include a minimum 5+ years in direct laboratory bench experience with proven track record of scientific accomplishments.
Strong time management and scientific leadership skills and the ability to influence others without direct authority.
Ability to travel (domestic and internationally)-likely 5-10% of time.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Competency with advanced statistical methods and programs (JMP, SAS, R) necessary for scientific data analysis and interpretation including DOE or equivalent experience.
Experience in antimicrobial susceptibility product development in a regulated medical device field, ISO 13485 and FDA 21CFR Part 820
Experience with laboratory practices used in handling medically relevant bacteria and yeast species
7+ years in direct laboratory bench experience
The salary range for this role is $90K-$110K. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
