Do you want to work in an agile software feature team? Do you enjoy leading a team whilst staying hands-on with design and code? We are currently seeking a Lead Software Engineer who will be responsible for leading a team of developers and testers working on SaaS Microservices.

What you will be doing:

  • Technical Lead for an agile feature team comprising a PO, SM, software engineers, software test engineers.

  • Translate engineering strategy and operational requirements into team level technical roadmap. Own and promote the technical roadmap for the team. Stay aware of and promote new technologies, platforms, and best practices. Assess and advocate the use of design patterns at code and system level.

  • Drive module level architecture and design work considering security and performance requirements, architectural guidelines, and formulating your team's deployment and monitoring strategy.

  • Design and implement high quality cloud software, using good development practices such as pairing, swarming, code reviews, shift left automated testing. Deploy, run, and maintain your team’s code in production applying a DevOps and automation mindset.

  • Support and drive continuous improvement within the team throughout all areas, including technologies, software and process.

Here is what success in this role looks like:

  • Ability to design, develop and deliver complex applications using a web-based front end and a multi-tiered backend consisting of integrated cloud-based application servers, micro-services and a variety of data sources.

  • Ability to lead a team in all technical aspects of software development and delivery within an agile development environment. Demonstrating experience as a leader in:

Technical expertise - a solid understanding of software development principles, methodologies, and technologies.Leadership skills - strong leadership qualities, inspiring and motivating team members.Communication skills - effective communication, involving active listening, and fostering open discussions.Decision-making ability - make critical decisions affecting the project, analyse information, consider diverse perspectives, and make informed decisions.Problem-solving skills - excel in problem-solving, identifying and overcoming challenges, and fostering creativity and innovation for efficient solutions.Time management and organization - effectively manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities.

  • Experience of using automated build and deployment mechanisms, techniques and software for CI/CD (e.g., GitHub, Jenkins pipelines, Terraform, and Helm) and of using an automated shift-left testing approach to software delivery.

  • Experience in two or more software development languages and frameworks (e.g. Java, JavaScript, Typescript, React, Spring Boot) and experience with software development tools and methodologies (e.g., Git, JIRA, Scrum, Scrumban, Kanban).

  • Knowledge of cloud systems (e.g. microservices, data lakes, pipelines) and cloud based technologies (e.g. AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Kafka, Snowflake, MongoDB, Oracle, JBoss).

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Familiarity with databases, SQL, and data modelling.

  • Working within the guidelines and policies of a highly regulated environment.

  • Understanding of developing secure software, including a good understanding of the OWASP top-10 and secure development principles and best practices.
